Auskickers to shine at ANZ Stadium Wollongong Lions Auskickers will have the opportunity to play on ANZ Stadium on April 12. This will be at half-time of the Swans v's West Coast night game at ANZ Stadium (formerly Telstra Stadium). Teams will be made up from all competing clubs within Greater Sydney Juniors Illawarra teams, and each will be able to submit 9 Under 9 players. So express your interest early. Teams Update Wollongong Lions Juniors will field teams in the following grades for the 2008 season, Auskick (under 7’s mainly), under 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 13’s (combination of 12's and 13's) Training has commenced, and runs each Wednesday at 5:30pm Gala Day Each year the junior competition traditionally kicks off with the Gala Day at Figtree oval for all grades, which is scheduled to take place on 29th March 2008. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before, your local AFL club the Wollongong Lions would love to see you this season. The Lions are based at North Dalton Park in Towradgi. Boys and girls from 5 to 17 years of age are welcome. The rules of junior AFL are modified to maximise participation, enjoyment and player safety. And there’s no grading – so if you join with your mates, you’ll play with your mates, all season, every season. Training commences Wednesday March 12 at 5:30pm For more info and registration, call Mike Christie on 4229 2419. Expressions of Interest – 2008 Team Coach’s Expressions of interest are sought for coaching positions for all grades of the Wollongong Lions juniors. The break up of grades has not yet been advised by the Regional Committee, but we anticipate it will be similar to last year. In this case we will require coach’s for U/9’s, U/10’s, U/11’s and U/13’s. We will also require an Auskick (5-8 y.o.) coordinator. Coach’s must be available for training from 5.30pm to 7pm on Wednesday evening and for games on Saturdays (occasionally Friday nights or Sundays). Training starts on March 12 at North Dalton Park. Coaching resources including manuals and on-line instructional material are available. All coaches are required to have a Level 1 coaching accreditation. The club will arrange and pay for any coach's not accredited to undertake the one day course during the season. The Wollongong Lions will also have a coach’s mentor available for advice, direction and feedback. Team managers are also required who are welcome to assist with coaching, but need only be available on game days. Lions U10's - 2007 Premiers Lions U10's defeated Northern District Tigers 5-7-37 to 1-6-12. On what was a very wet ground, the Lions displayed great skill to control the ball in the trying conditions. Well done Lions! The Lions U9's also contested their Grand Final but unfortunately went down in thriller by 6 points. Bad Luck, but hopefully you can go one better next season.
U9's & U10's march into Grand Final's Both the Wollongong Lions U9's & U10's have won their way through to their respective Grand Finals next weekend. U9's contested a thriller, with scores level at three quarter time, they managed to outscore their opposition with a very strong last quarter, kicking three goals to none. Great effort fella's. U10's managed to maintain a 1 to 2 goal margin at each quarter break, but were able to get away in the last outscoring the Swans. It was one of the toughest games this season and shows they have whats necessary to beat the Tigers next weekend. All Grand Finals will be hosted at North Dalton Park, next weekend, September 8th.
U10's rejoice and U9's sing - "Grand Finals here we come!" U10's to fight another day Lions U10's unfortunately went down after a fiercely contested battle by 13 points in the major semi-final. The Tigers displayed too much desire for the ball in the final quarter, and got away with a win. Lions now play Shellharbour Swans in the Preliminary Final at Reed Park Dapto 9am, this Saturday September 1. The Lions U9's will also be playing this weekend at Reed Park Dapto at 9am, with a series of Semi-Final qualifiers for the right to play in the Grand Final. Good Luck to both teams and hope to see you there. Illawarra Junior Association Presentation Night - Monday September 3rd 6:30pm Master Builders. Junior Finals Week1 Sat 25 Aug 2007 To all Players, Parents, and Supporters, The Lions U10's will be playing the Tigers in the Major Semi-final at Figtree Oval at 9am. These teams have only met once this season, with the Tigers getting home in the final quarter assisted by a very strong wind. Both teams have had strong seasons and this poses itself to be a great game. U/9's who have a bye this Saturday, go straight into the semi-finals at Reed Park on Sept 1. Hope to see you there. AFL Fun Day Sat 26 Aug 2007 Illawarra Juniors Auskickers and U9's are invite to a great day of AFL activities and fun at Reed Park Dapto from 10am. Hope your able to make it. Upcoming Lions Action To all Players, Parents, and Supporters, The Lions have a busy couple of weeks coming up. Firstly, we head into the finals after this weeks home and away games. Whilst all teams have played hard through the season, only the U9's and U10's will see some finals action. Finals will be played over three weeks commencing August 25. Both U9 and U10 teams will play a round robin or final respectively. Keep posted on further updates, as we progress through the finals. Grand Finals will be played at North Dalton Park on Saturday September 8. Hopefully we'll have both teams in action. Presentation Day will be held on Sunday September 9 10am.
